The Showrunner Reveals He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer could not have predicted that Pluribus would become a cultural phenomenon. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the popular sci-fi show coming to an end—and the next chapter greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the viewer reception and whether it will influence the narrative path of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Viewer Reception

One could easily to get distracted by the constant speculation and fan theories about Pluribus. He is doing his best to ignore the noise.

“It feels like an endless supply of hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's on purpose. I have never searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by online forums.”

“Better to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

The Big Question: Has the creator Know the Conclusion of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by audience theories, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… sort of.

“There are some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to discard a decent plan for a better idea. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Then again, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.

“I keep pitching that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, why mess with the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to wake up in bed next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
