Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during a recent discussion.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the hospital, where he has been listed as serious yet stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” the coach said. “However, I can share, just talking to him, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD released surveillance images earlier this week of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and police mentioned it’s not clear if Boyd was singled out. No one else was hurt as confirmed by officials.

The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday near MSG and Times Square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was taken to a medical center after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, as reported. The assailant escaped.

Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts “a great deal” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a baby.

“The first thing I thought about, he has a new baby,” Glenn remarked. “I thought of his spouse, worrying about his newborn and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd hasn’t played this season, his debut year with New York, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with a shoulder issue that required surgery.

He joined the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of an improved special teams group under the coach and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on early August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has remained around the team throughout the season while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn commented. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, from Texas, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of Texas University in 2019. He later played for Arizona in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
