Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing offensive against it by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone close to the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any impact is uncertain and the US has yet to issue a statement.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house American military installations - reported they have shot down missiles in their air space.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was targeting US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on Iran carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck areas linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.

Additional Developments

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," it added.

Officials reported missile fragments fell on a populated district in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
