An individual who spiked candy with sleeping medication and distributed them to minors at a summer program in the region has confessed to sexual crimes against two children who were between nine and ten.

The accused was detained after eight minors and a grown-up became sick at the facility in the summer month.

The 76-year-old, from that region, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the courthouse on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he denied one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.

The accused was remanded in custody before a further hearing on 28 November.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She said his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a summer camp which he managed.

The man conducted a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to eat sweets "rapidly".

She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the children "repeatedly", and children had previously become sick the following morning.

She said the man had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had suspicions in summer 2025.

Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his stepson had concerns about the activities, justifiably.

"They resolved" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor stated items including baby oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were found, and his family member notified the law enforcement about his concerns.

She stated the man continued to engage in the "treat game" with six boys that time - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the next day.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that point," she stated further.

The oversight body, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

Mrs Prior stated the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson called the police once more.

She said the defendant then played the "sweet game" in a area of five children.
