Fans Demand Arrest of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate supporters of the pop star are demanding that a person who jumped a barricade and seized the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared video depicts the individual from Australia pushing past camera operators and lunging at Grande while the performers walked down a yellow carpet flanked by fans.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being removed of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "released after being arrested", though court documents showed that he was scheduled to be present on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
Record of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a celebrity gathering. His Instagram profile includes clips of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last December.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," commented an Instagram commenter, in a reply to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Express Concern Over Grande's Well-being
Several supporters accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed experiencing PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said another response on Instagram.
Several fans also faulted guards at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while some demanded online networks to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In footage shared widely, Grande seemed surprised when she was touched by the individual. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the situation, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Many of fans had assembled in a mass of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific debut in a Singapore shopping center, including several who had waited for as long as many hours before it began.
The movie, to be launched on November 21, is the follow-up of a dual interpretation of the acclaimed stage musical Wicked, which revolves around the surprising friendship between two very different witches.
The production itself is a derivative of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were alongside fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of last year in the UK, and received a dozen Academy Award nods, earning several for outstanding attire and set decoration.
