Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Group
Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to begin their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.
This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might appear out of place, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.
Casimir then paid off his obligations and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, wants revenge.
- Kattigan has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
- The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their status as important members in House Halovar could enable the group access areas they usually can’t.
- Moreover, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:
- Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and Wicander defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This results in them few options but to travel to Timmony in search of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Questers and Schemers groups.
Viewers can look forward to learning which players will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
